Mechelle and her husband Ron Yates started their jewelry business in 1989. They were both at the ripe ages of their mid 20's. The Yates' humble beginnings in the jewelry industry primarily involved dealing in fine estate jewelry.

After 4 years she received her Graduate Gemologist degree in 2001 - passing with an A! Upon receiving her Graduate Gemologist degree, Mechelle dove into antique period jewelry education and research. Antique and period jewelry are among Mechelle's favorite jewelry realms. Also, realizing that there is a shortage of qualified jewelry appraisers, Mechelle continued to build her jewelry appraisal skill and has joined the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (press release).
