Why Tungsten?

Tungsten is the only exotic metal that can be permanently polished. The polish and finish can last as long as your commitment to each other - forever!

With gold, platinum and even titanium rings, you will notice varying degrees of scratching, denting and surface mars. However, the surface of a tungsten ring will maintain it's original beautiful shiny finish.

Tungsten rings have a hefty weight to them. The enduring polish of a tungsten ring, together with the solid weight, speak of commitment, security and an everlasting bond.

Hard Facts About Tungsten Carbide Rings:
  • Tungsten rings are the most wear resistant rings available on the planet.
  • Tungsten is about 10 times harder than 18K Gold, 5 times harder than tool steel, and 4 times harder than titanium.
  • Tungsten measures between 8 and 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. (Diamonds are a 10 - the highest.)
  • Due to their extreme hardness, Tungsten Rings will hold their shape and shine longer than any ring on the market.
  • A ring of Tungsten will NOT bend.
  • To achieve the incredible polish, diamond abrasives and poly crystalline diamond tools are used on each ring.
  • Our Tungsten Rings are cobalt free. That's a big deal.

How are Tungsten Rings Made?

Tungsten with carbon and other elements are ground into a powder and then compressed with high pressure dies to form a ring blank.

The blank is then fired in an oxygen free furnace at an astounding 6,200 degrees Fahrenheit. (That is HOT!) This process called sintering creates the hardest metal used for making jewelry.

The ring is then cut and shaped using diamond tools with approximately 30 steps required for completion. The cutting and shaping of a tungsten ring is similar in many ways to the cutting and polishing of a rough diamond.

Tungsten rings inlaid with gold, silver, platinum or mokume gane are created by grinding a channel in the center of the ring and precisely "swedging" the metal into the channel under extreme pressure.

The ring is then skillfully polished with diamond polishing tools and wheels creating a permanent luster and polish not possible with other metals.

A Tungsten Carbide ring will remain polished forever, and is scratch resistant. It is a unique material that epitomizes today's man more than any other.

Beware of Tungsten-Only Rings

Some of the low priced rings we've seen on discount websites do not include Carbide. (Some of the retailers still call them Tungsten Carbide however, so be careful.) A Tungsten-only ring is basically a steel ring. It is very hard, but NOT scratch proof.

A Tungsten Carbide ring can only be scratched by a diamond or a product containing the mineral corundum.

If you are shopping for a tungsten wedding ring you are better off with one of our Tungsten Carbide Rings and it's lifetime warranty.

Read What Guys Are Saying About Their Tungsten Rings:

Absolutely love my tungsten ring!! I work in the Oilfield and around tools all day. And this ring holds true to every claim. Outstanding quality and workmanship. And still looks good at the end of the day. I will never buy anything else.

- Bryan from Odessa, TX

Very impressed with the ring. Absolutely unbeatable quality at the price. I had a platinum band before this one, while more expensive, didn't look any better (actually, with scratches it looked worse!) I would definitely buy from a tungsten ring from you again.

- T. Schwartz from New York, NY

This is my wedding ring. I purchased Tungsten because I do body work and am hard on my hands. Not only does this ring look and feel good, it's made to hold up through heavy use.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT TUNGSTEN RINGS:

Should I be concerned with Cobalt in my Tungsten Ring?

Absolutely YES! Many Tungsten and tungsten carbide rings have Cobalt in them. The alloy containing Cobalt is easier to procure and tungsten rings containing Cobalt are being commonly sold. However, tungsten rings containing Cobalt will develop a negative reaction to your skin. After a short time period the ring will develop oxidation spots that cannot be removed or polished out. This is due to the Cobalt reacting to the human body. You can easily prevent this from happening by purchasing one of our Cobalt free tungsten carbide rings.

How to Care for your new Tungsten Ring

Your new tungsten ring should last for a lifetime and always look great! There are a just a few points to keep in mind to ensure your ring stays in it's pristine condition for years to come.

  • DO NOT drop your ring on a hard surface or purposely hit it with hard metal tool, such as a hammer.
  • DO NOT clean your tungsten ring in a jewelers ultrasonic cleaner, or with a steam cleaner or ionic cleaner.
  • DO NOT clean your tungsten ring with any chemicals as this can cause spotting.
  • DO only clean your tungsten ring with a mild soap and water. This will remove dirt, grime, lotions and keep your ring sparkly clean!
Emergency Removal of Tungsten Rings

Materials, like tungsten carbide or ceramic, can only be removed by cracking them into pieces with standard vice grip–style locking pliers. Standard ring cutters will not work.
Place vice grip–style locking pliers over ring and adjust the jaws to clamp lightly. Release and adjust tightener one-third turn and then clamp again. Repeat until a crack is heard, and then continue clamping in different positions until the hard material breaks away. Take care not to slide or rotate the cracked ring on the finger. If the ring contains an inlay of gold, the exposed gold can then be cut or clipped in the usual fashion.
